Mac OS X 10.7 lion

It’s a rare treat when we know about an Apple product before it’s released. But the secrecy- shrouded tech giant teased its big 2011 update of its Mac OS X operating system, nicknamed “Lion, ” for months before its official release. It was first released to developers earlier this year, then detailed in full by Apple head honcho Steve Jobs at the 2011 Worldwide Developer’s Conference in June . Now, after all the buildup and hype, the rest of the world can finally find out if Lion is really the "mane" event that Apple has built it up to be. (No groans, please.) apple-macbook-air-13.3 -inch-2011 -version_large If there’s one thing we can take away from our first impressions of Lion, it’s that Apple, like never before, has worked to unite its desktop- and laptop-centric Mac OS and the mobile-device- centric iOS. The similarities between the two are striking: from multi-touch gestures, the Mac App Store, and even the new Launchpad feature that visually serves your applications to you in icon form, you’ll now find a striking familiarity between the two. And with the runaway successes of the Apple iPad , iPad 2 , and iPhone , why not bring the best of iOS to the Mac? Apple has always been a company that serves its products up in an “ ecosystem,” but never before has the integration among all of Apple’s products been more apparent than in this new generation of the Mac OS. With more than 250 new features, Lion is a much more dramatic overhaul to the Mac OS than when Apple upgraded OS X from Leopard to Snow Leopard  in 2009 . As a matter of fact, this is the first truly major upgrade to the Mac OS since Leopard replaced Panther in 2007 . (Snow Leopard was more of an under-the-hood performance upgrade.) We won’t touch on all 250 of those features in our review. Instead, we’ll look closely at a few of the higher-profile ones—the ones that are most likely to be used by everyday consumers.
