Tested: Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire Tablet

Was it just a year ago that the Apple iPad was practically the only tablet on the market? (Or at least, the only good one?) In that time, we’ve seen some respectable competition pop up, but never anything that’s spawned the talk that the Amazon Kindle Fire has. Partly, it’s because of the price: At $199, the Fire has been hyped as, potentially, the first inexpensive tablet worth buying, and it arrived right on cue for holiday shopping. The other half of its appeal is its integration with Amazon’s massive media empire, whose digital music, video, magazine, and book selection is second to none.

Given that you could buy almost three Kindle Fires for the price of the cheapest iPad, we know there’s lots of interest in this potentially category-reshaping product. Check out our in-depth review of the Kindle Fire to find out what our editors thought of it.
